Welcome

to my personal blog. Here I post examples of my photography and writing. I specialize in making unique and highly detailed photographs. Notice I said making and not taking. Yes I take photos but a lot of time and work is involved in pushing and punishing the pixels in my images to achieve the look I like.

Please feel free make comments about any of my words or photos. I enjoy constructive critiques, learning about locations to shoot or photography techniques. Click on the "Share Article" link to share any of my photos via Flickr, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

Want to use one of my posts in your own blog? No problem, but please make sure it links back to the original post here and do the right thing and give me credit. Don't copy my words, crop the images, remove the watermarks or claim my work as your own. This has happened more times than I can count so I've had to report copyright violations to ISP's and regrettably the violators blog is usually taken down.

Can't we all just get along?

Sundowners

Sundowners, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Another Wednesday evening at the drive-in. The sun was going down fast by the time I got a chance to make an image of this amazing car. The owner walked up and asked if I was "filming" his car. I said no since I was making images. He jumped in and left almost immediately afterward.

It would be mine

It would be mine, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Ok I like making images of classic cars but I don't really want one... Well I didn't until I saw this cool red coupe. Now if money wasn't an object, and if my wife didn't object... I might not either. Hmmmm. Look at me, look at me!

Mercury Eight

Mercury Eight, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

This big classic car had a really interesting grill. I'll bet it weighs 500 lbs.

Hey there Bright Eyes!

Hey there Bright Eyes!, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

This was interesting and quite unexpected. Can anyone guess what this thing is? I made this image at the Hooters car show in El Toro, California. The Hooters girls were running around being all hooteriffic. I declined taking any pictures of them, although a couple did ask. Not sure what purpose they actually serve at the show. I did see some comparing who's butt was hanging out of their orange shorts more. Whatever. Anyway, I saw this very interesting object and decided to take a few shots. Any guesses as to what this thing was attached to?

If I had a set of wings man I know she could fly

This is a pretty nice 1932 Ford Coupe. No idea if it's real or a recreation. Doesn't matter much to me. I just thought it was cool.

Impressive Wingspan

Impressive Wingspan, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

Wow I just couldn't take enough photos of this super fine '59. In an era of tall fins being very popular on cars, Chevy designers went for the wide stance. Good decision I reckon.

Make mine a '39

Make mine a '39, originally uploaded by big_pixel_pusher.

I saw several 1939 Chevy's at the 2009 Uptown Whittier Car Show but I think this was one of the nicest. Only HDR seems to be able to reveal the high gloss reflectivity of the paint on these customized cars. If you look just to the left of the license plate you can clearly see my rolling backpack, tripod and me taking the photos used to create this composite image.

One Nine Five Nine - Impala

Ok so why can't modern car manufacturers make anything even approaching the coolness of a car like this? Kathy was going to the Ruby's car show and asked if I wanted to go. Well now, any chance to hang out with my beautiful wife is great and if we can take photos of cool cars too it's a win, win. I last photographed this 1959 Impala at the Uptown Whittier Car Show about a year ago. I reintroduced myself to the owner who was nice enough to move the car to a more open space so I could get better pictures. I took a lot of shots which I will post in the weeks to come.

I got a rocket in my pocket

Light-weight, low slung and fast. What more could you want? OK maybe power brakes and steering, and air conditioning. Whatever. Still way cool.
